How about using Toupee Tape to hold fabric together?

If, for instance, you want to hem a pair of pants without sewing, pull a length of toupee tape from the roll, apply it to the hem edge of the pant leg, and pull away the adhesive backing to expose the sticky part.  Turn the edge up, sticking it to the pant leg and leaving a finished edge. Remove before washing.
